Getting Started with OBS Studio

To get started, launch OBS Studio and click on the 'Start Recording' button to begin recording your desktop audio. You can also start streaming online by clicking on the 'Start Streaming' button.

Setting Advanced Audio Properties

To monitor your audio without hearing feedback, go to the 'Advanced Audio Properties' section and set the following:

Before you can capture desktop audio, you'll need to install Soundflower and make some changes to your Audio MIDI Setup. Follow these steps:

1. Install Soundflower

2. Open Audio MIDI Setup and select the 'Audio Devices' tab

3. Click on the '+' button to add a new device

4. Select 'Soundflower (2ch)' as the device

Adjusting Volume Levels

In the Audio Mixer section, you can adjust the volume levels of each sound input. To remove a source, simply select it and click on the '-' button.

Resizing Video Capture

To create a picture-in-picture style screen, go to 'Video Capture' and resize the window as needed.

Selecting Camera Devices

Go to 'Device' and select your Facetime HD camera or other cameras that you attach. You can also adjust the settings for each camera device by clicking on the 'Transform' menu and selecting 'Fit to Screen'.

To add a new scene, go to the 'Sources' box in the bottom left corner of the screen and click on the '+' button. You can also rename existing scenes by double-clicking on them.

For advanced settings, I've used these selections for a long time and never changed them. You may want to experiment with different settings to find what works best for you.

Hotkeys Settings

In the Hotkeys section, you can assign keyboard shortcuts to various commands. This can be useful for quick access to certain features during your stream.

Video Settings

For video settings, I typically choose a resolution of 1080p or higher, depending on my internet connection and hardware capabilities.

Audio Settings

Under Audio Settings, set the 'Desktop Audio Device' to 'Default' and the 'Mic/Auxiliary Audio Device' to 'Built-in Microphone'. You can also adjust other audio settings as needed.

Output Settings

In the Output Settings section, choose 'Simple Output Mode' for a start and follow these selections as shown. We will explore more advanced output settings later in this guide.

Stream Settings

In the Stream Settings section, I typically choose either YouTube or Facebook Live and enter the Stream Key provided. You can also adjust other stream settings as needed.
